Eva’s Story
It’s often difficult to know where to begin when so much has been accomplished, so much lost, yet so much gained as a result! Let me take off from 2008.
Eva Elaine Tomney, a beautiful healthy baby girl, was born November 5 th 2008 just 4 days shy of a year which would mark her older brother’s 1 st birthday. Advanced beyond her years, Eva was a joy to all who met her with her natural charm and charisma, the apple of our eye. In October 2012, at 3.5 years old, our normally contented little girl and serious fashionista, who usually relished being in the middle of everything girly and loved getting her hair done and playing dress up, was behaving strangely. Eva’s behaviour changed and she started to become less interested in everything. She complained a lot of a sore neck. She wasn’t eating well and cried excessively, especially when she was getting her hair done. Worried, we took her to the doctor who felt that her neck pain was simply “growing pains” which, with time would go away. In September, some three months later Eva took a seizure and we were understandably very concerned. Eventually, after numerous weeks and tests the unimaginable happened and Eva was diagnosed with a very large and rare brain tumour which had already spread down her spine. In the background I was holding down a full-time job as a teacher of 16-18 year olds in a co-educational comprehensive secondary school and doing things with Eva that would help her fine and gross motor skills throughout treatment. Together, we developed a love of baking! Eva loved nothing more than a good Tea Party served with delicious cake.
In 2012, at just three and a half years old, Eva’s health began to change. After months of worry, tests revealed a rare brain tumour that had spread to her spine. Throughout treatment, Eva and her mum, Tracy, spent time baking together. These moments, filled with joy and creativity, planted the seed that would later grow into Tullie’s Teapot.
Tragically, in November 2015, despite completing her treatment in 2013, Eva suddenly and unexpectedly passed away. Her courage, spirit, and love left an unforgettable mark on everyone who knew her.
Eva’s Legacy – Tullie’s Teapot
Little did we know the devastating blow we would take in late November 2015, when suddenly and very unexpectedly Eva, who had finished treatment in June 2013, passed away on a Saturday afternoon just as I laid her from my arms. I didn’t have it in me to pick up the pieces, truthfully, I didn’t want to then and struggle at times to find normality now. This journey has broken me, built me up, formed a new version of me and provided me with immense clarity on life and on what the riches of life are; time with family and friends, love and moments that only family and love can create. My life goal is radically different to the earlier version of me who wanted to become Principal and change educational reforms. Although those are great goals for someone to have, Eva’s legacy is now my priority. The gift that she was to everyone who met her means she is too significant to become another statistic of childhood cancer. As such, Tullie’s Teapot was born! This is our little corner of the world where you will see Eva in all we create and bake. She’s in the colour, in the flavour, in the smiles of the faces of all who try our bakes! Her legacy lives on and every time you visit or order from us, you get to share in her continued journey with us. Thanks so much for popping in. We sure do hope you call again soon! Love Tracy & The Tullie’s Teapot Team xXx
When you visit us or order a cake, you become part of her story. Eva lives on in every creation, and through Tullie’s Teapot, her light continues to shine.
With love,
Tracy & The Tullie’s Teapot Team
